Laser cutting

2007

Variable dimensions

This project got me excited about laser cutting. For the first part, I designed a series of geometric shapes based on South African flowers—the protea and disa. I had these cut out of stainless steel, all with a common hole pattern that allowed them to be bolted together in multiple combinations.

For the second part I found a glossy photographic book on South African flowers. Out of the pages of this I laser-cut text, graphs and images that showed frightening global warming statistics.
